Cinnamon Pear Sauce

SONY DSC

So friends, as you may remember, I am a total fan of homemade applesauce.  It’s unbeatable…store bought varieties just don’t compare.  Not to mention when you make it homemade you’re not stripping away a ton of the nutrients through processing and preserving.  I’m just sold on the whole deal, especially considering how simple it is to prepare at home.

Now, theres a couple of kinds of food love, in my book.  Theres being a total fan, as I told you I was of the applesauce in the paragraph above.  And then theres Hallelujah, over the moon, this-is-out-of-control, party-don’t-stop food love.  This Cinnamon Pear Sauce?  I would classify it under the latter.   Continue reading

Pan Roasted Pork Tenderloin with Apples

Any recollection of this Brady Bunch episode where Peter is obsessed with imitating other people? His Humphrey Bogart rocked.  Pork chaaapssh and applesaush. And isn’t it so normal how Carol greets Mike at the door so charismatically with that dress and heels on? That’s EXACTLY what it’s like when my husband gets home from work. Minus the dress and plus some sweatpants. Minus the heels and plus bare feet. And plus screaming kids climbing on me. And usually, hair that’s made it through half of the day but has retired to a top knot because food has somehow nestled it’s way into every strand. But other than that, it’s the EXACT same.  Continue reading

Pan Roasted Mediterranean Chicken and Rice

This is an awesome transitional dish for this time of year.  Theres a giant comfort factor to it because of the richness, but the light, fresh flavor is what really shines.  So brightly.   Continue reading

Anything that tastes like dessert but is eligible to be served for breakfast is always welcomed around here.  And this Pumpkin Spice Smoothie definitely fits that bill. Continue reading

Quick Bolognese Sauce

SONY DSC

“Spaghetti” doesn’t happen often around here and every time I make this recipe for Quick Bolognese Sauce I ask myself why.  Its like one of those basic recipes that I forget to come back to. But just yesterday, as the leaves began to fall a bit, I took a break from grilling and salads and lightness galore and ended up with this pot of gold on my stove. Continue reading

Nourished Peach Crumble

SONY DSC

So you may remember this mess of an experience I had trying to create a solid “crumble” recipe.  It failed.  And that was most definitely not my first and last attempt at getting it right.

But finally, I am satisfied.  I surrender to the fruit crumble madness that has taken over my home.  Which is, likely, a good thing.  My children aren’t too thrilled about it, but any more taste testing of these different recipes and chances are they’d turn into walking, crumbly, fruit humans. Grilled Asian Sesame Chicken Thighs

SONY DSC

Chicken thighs tend to get shoved in a corner and for no good reason at all.  They are total gems of the chicken world, in my opinion.  They don’t dry out like white meat.  They are tender, full of juice, totally affordable and so quick to cook.  Just a few of the many reasons this dish is a favorite of mine. Continue reading

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

SONY DSC

Dare I say it, friends?  It is nearing that time of year again.  School is about to begin which means less time for preparing meals or, for some families, even enjoying meals together.  School, activities, work and everything in between all come together to form one big blob of chaos, for most.  I’ve had quite a few requests for crock pot recipes to help ease into the chaotic evenings and this pulled pork is a total winner.   Continue reading
