It’s about to get sticky-hot up in here, Midwest friends! So I had to pass this doozy along…you’re going to want to drink these to no end these next few days. And just because I love you so much, I am giving you full permission to add vodka to make a grown-up version. Take it or leave it, but if you do so feel inclined..cheers;)
These slushies have been all the rage in the Oprish house these last couple of weeks. We are addicted! A perfect blend of tart and sweet and refreshing to no end. I love that they are sweetened with agave and they really are such a cinch to whip up!
Thinking these would be a perfect addition to a 4th of July menu, too….they just scream summer!
Fresh Lemonade Slushies
8 Cups Ice
1 Cup Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
1 Cup Cold Water
1/3 Cup Agave Nectar
Place all ingredients into a blender and blend on high until they’ve reached a slushie consistency. Serve immediately.

You aren’t going to believe these. Truly.
Let’s just start with the fact that they involve only 6 simple ingredients.
And then lets discuss the fact that there is no cooking involved. Or blending. Or pureeing. Or effort. None.
And then let’s talk about how much more healthful they are than your typical store-bought white sugar packed peanut butter chocolate granola bars.
If you have been following along here for a while you have probably realized that refined sugar and flour recipes don’t come around Nourished Peach much. Quite frankly, this could be the very first one I have ever written about. But just hear me out.
We eat well. And by we, I mean my family at home and you, my NP family. We do, we pack our every day diets with color and nutrients and protein and diversity. Not because we want to see the scale drop or because we are trying to stay hip to new diet trends; because we care for our bodies, we care about the food we eat and because we get pleasure from gorgeous, enjoyable meals. Food, with NP, is not only about fueling our bodies. It’s about seriously enjoying the process of preparing the food and the gratification of the finished, delicious product. And more than anything, to me, it is about sharing that finished product with the people I love most. It’s about feeding bellies and souls. Cooking is my favorite way to show love, and enjoying a meal with my friends and family is my favorite way to spend time. Having all of those wonderful reasons we eat well allows us the ability to avoid diet rollercoasters, deprivation and unhealthful relationships with food. Continue reading

Happy Halloween Week! It’s funny, I was never really a fan of this upcoming holiday until my kids came along. But now, for me, it’s basically pure excitement. It’s a fun excuse to dress my kids in hilarious outfits (please, just pray Jude allows me to put his costume on him for at least one photo. one, thats the goal this year, just one little itty bitty photo is all i ask for. pray friends, pray.) Not to mention this holiday is perfectly placed among the most GORGEOUS time of year. Crispy Autumn. Ahh.

I’m in full recovery mode over here. From a sleep-deprived, exhausting absolutely amazing weekend with family. We headed down to my hometown in Iowa to celebrate something pretty darn major in my family. My parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. Can you handle it? I can’t. I can’t handle so much about it; how quickly time flies, how much they have accomplished in 50 years and, more than anything, how they define what marriage is all about.
I’ve told you before and I’ll tell you time and time again, friends, I am blessed to no end to have been brought up by these parents of mine. Not because of how much they have done for me or how selfless of parents they are, but because of how they do it TOGETHER. And so well. Nick and I have enormous shoes to fill in that department; and from what my eyes have seen it all comes down to teamwork. And empathy. And respect. And simply learning that it isn’t all about ourselves and that it is okay to let things go and pick your battles-thank you, Mom and Dad, for teaching me all of these values by example.
So, needless to say, this weekend involved a lot of celebrating. My five siblings, myself, spouses, 17 crazy-amazing grandchildren and some top notch aunts and uncles. And as you are aware, in my family, celebrating and food tend to go hand in hand. These Oatmeal Dark Chocolate Chunk cookies were one of my contributions to the celebrating.
