Happy Saturday, friends! More specifically, the Saturday before Valentines Day. So I thought I just must leave you with a super fun recipe for you to hammer out this weekend…Cherry Pie Pastry Hearts! Continue reading
What are the chances that you are either hosting a gathering in the next few weeks or that you are responsible to take a “dish to share” to someone elses home? Pretty good, I would assume. Tis the season for cocktails, appetizers and gorgeous, festive finger food and friends, I’ve got the hookup right smack dab here.
So, without further ado, I present to you the most merry, yummy, gorgeous little ditties south of the North Pole. Happy App’ing! Continue reading
Friends, it’s all beginning! Snow. Elastic pants. Food overload. Family time. The holidays….yay!
Are you all set for Thanksgiving? Turkeys brining? Recipes ready to rock and roll? We will be hosting my in laws again this year so it will be cozy and quiet…looking forward to a wonderful day with lots of food. When it comes to Thanksgiving dinner I’m a bit of a traditionalist….aside from throwing in a fun, new salad here and there I like to stick to the basics. Classic roasted turkey. Mashed potatoes and gravy. Stuffing. Those are the basics….delicious, dependable, crowd pleasing basics. And then…in my house, there is no such thing as a Thanksgiving meal without Ina’s Spinach Gratin-I die. And a good old fashioned cranberry sauce-can never ever ever get enough. Continue reading
Well. I’ve been sitting here pondering what to call this recipe. Picture this: my husband and I are both on the couch. I’ve got the laptop, well, in my lap as it should be, and he is reading Lord knows what on his phone. He looks at me: what are you stuck on? Me: I’m trying to figure out what I should call those drinks. Nick: a summer slurpee?
So, theres a couple of reasons I didn’t go for his suggestion. First off, we certainly don’t run a 7-11 out of my kitchen, as much as I love the thought of that. Second, its not 1987. I didn’t just get back from riding my bike to the gas station up the road to spend all of my hard earned allowance on a cherry icey and Big League Chew. This recipe must never be called a Slurpee of any sort. Lets go ahead and give him an A for effort, but clearly I’m on my own with this one.
Right here we’ve got a bunch of my favorite flavors all muddled into one fabulous, stand-out meal. The tiny bit of peanut butter in the marinade takes the flavor of this juicy, smokey chicken straight over the top….the pineapple adds the perfect hint of sweet acid and the coconut rice just simply turns this number into a home run. So yum.
When I first moved up to Minneapolis I waited tables at this place. There was a reuben on the menu that they were sort of known for at the time. But it wasn’t like any other reuben I’d ever had. The corned beef was braised. So the results were not a slice of dry beef, but the most tender, pull-apart, juicy bliss. It was basically like a love child between a pot roast and a corned beef brisket.
Fast forward about a bajillion years and here I was, just this past weekend, standing among a St Patricks Day haven at the local market: a giant cooler full of corned beef briskets. Score! Totally trying this reuben thing at home. Continue reading
The love is officially being spread, you guys.
I’m sure I’ve told you before…my kids are crazy people for chocolate covered strawberries. Like, to the point of requesting them for their birthdays instead of cake. The love is real. Continue reading
Well, it’s almost here. NYE. New Years Day. Time to start planning those menus-well, I suppose that was directed toward all of my fellow last minute, procrastinating friends. For those of you who already have your appetizers to share or menus planned, carry on. I strive to be like you when I grow up. Interweb high fives going your way. Continue reading
This was positively not supposed to happen today. I had a plan. I am dependent on my plans. For this, I blame my children.
Pre kids I could’ve won awards for flying by the seat of my pants. Always down for whatever. Always willing to juggle around my days. And top notch at getting side tracked and staying up into the late hours of the evening in order to complete the most important task that needed to be done that day. Procrastination was a strong suit of mine. It still is, but there is now a schedule. That part has just got to stick. Continue reading
These are a real thing, you guys. They happened in my kitchen just yesterday. I saw them with my own two eyes. I tasted them with my very own tastebuds. I shared them with a few small grateful children and a couple friends. And now, they are gone. Today, no more. So I’ll be making another batch just as soon as I get this recipe into your hands. Continue reading
